IN THE BEGINNING
BIBLE TEXT: Genesis 1:1-19
Scripture:
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. (Gen 1:1)
This is how the bible begins. God ensures that it is very clear to man that the earth is His and the fullness thereof; the world and they that dwell therein (Psalms 24:1). It is a clear statement; no ambiguity. In Revelations 4:11, heaven declares "God has created all things and for his pleasure, they are and were created". In Job 38:4, we learn that God alone laid the foundations of the earth. More interestingly, Jesus tells us in John 17:5 that God exists even before the foundations of the earth were laid. He, Jehovah God alone, the Yahweh of Israel is the one true God who claims undisputable supremacy over the earth, it's creation and sustenance. Nothing and no one else can. Therefore, all who advocate other theories of creation shall as well perish like the godless gods of Jeremiah 10:10-11
God is the owner of the universe. The world began by him creating it and setting it in order. Science also proves that the intricate nature of the earth and its inhabitants attest to the fact that nothing else could have made it so except a supreme being as God himself. Sadly, we have people who, despite manifold evidences still doubt that God created the world. If one doubts his creator, what then can his life become? Again, John tells us that the light in Genesis 1:3, which God commanded forth, was Jesus himself (see John 1: 3 - 5). Jesus is the spoken word of God through which all things were created.
So what? Having known that God is the maker and creator of the eternal universe what should be our attitude to God, our life and our world? Without yielding closer to our maker and living in Jesus, the source of our lives, we cannot have an abundant or fulfilling life here on earth. Humans and all things were created for God's pleasure. How far do we go to ensure that we live our lives according to the manufacturer's manual?
PRAYER: thou art worthy O lord, to receive glory, honour and power for thou hast created all things and for thy pleasure they are and were created. Amen!
