GOD'S JUDGEMENT ON THE REMNANT
Text: Ezekiel 33: 21 - 33
In Ezekiel 24, Ezekiel's wife died and God asked him to do certain things as a sign of what happened in today's reading. In verse 26-27 of that chapter it says "he that escaped in that day shall come unto thee, to cause thee to hear it with thine ears. In that day shall thy mouth be opened to him which is escaped and thou shalt speak and be no more dumb and thou shall be a sign unto them and they shall know that I am the lord". Today, we are reading the fulfilment of this prophecy. The lord does nothing without first sending a warning. He warned Zedekiah many times through the mouth of prophet Jeremiah but he wouldn't listen. Instead, him and his followers were bent on having their way against God's numerous warnings.
Unfortunately, despite all their quoting and claiming of "bible promises" the determined calamity came upon them like a thief. The city was smitten and it fell. All inhabitants were taken away while others died different kinds of horrible deaths. Abraham's blessings can only be ours when we are walking in obedience to God's word. We cannot continue in sin for grace to abound (Romans 6:1). Ezekiel as a good watchman kept on warning the people against the impending doom. Sadly, verses 30-32 describes how they regard his message. They see it as a lullaby or a lovely song that is very soothing to the ears. It is just mere entertainment and amusement to them. They never take his message seriously. So, verse 31 says "and they come unto thee as the people and they hear thy word but they will not do them, for with their mouth they show much love but their heart goeth forth after their covetousness". This verse is so descriptive of Christianity today. Many who profess Christ today do it only with their lips. Their character and interests show a total fallacy and contrast to the words they speak.
Beloved, are you among this number who trivialize God's principles and commands? Yet claim all the blessings in the bible? There is great danger ahead. God is not a man that he can be mocked (Galatians 6:7). Moreover, the foundation of God stands sure having this seal; let everyone that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity (2 Timothy 2:19). Repent today for judgement is coming. The only way out is total repentance. Do you still see church meetings as a social gathering? God has no delight in those who have tasted the good life in Jesus and yet deny the power in him by continuing in their sins ( see Hebrews 6:4-8). Yet if you will come today, there is still a fountain flowing. Avail yourself of the opportunity and escape the imminent judgement. God bless you!
