YOU ARE A WATCHMAN!
Text: Ezekiel 33:1-20
God has made each and everyone of us a watchman in our various units. For as long as you have known the lord, you are a watchman unto others that are yet to accept the gospel message. In this text, God was very clear to Ezekiel. He says, if I say;
the spoilers are come upon the high places and the sword of the lord shall devour from one end of the land to another (Jeremiah 12:12)
then it is your duty to get to the children of thy people and speak unto them and tell them;
thus says the lord, whether they will hear or whether they will forbear (Ezekiel 3:11).
Ours is to do our duty. The rest is for God and the person/people involved.
This goes to say that preaching the word of God is actually not a choice we are free to make. It is an obligation. Paul said, necessity is laid upon me, yea woe is me if I preach not the gospel (1Corinthians 9:16). Again in Mark 13:10, Jesus makes a remarkable statement; "And the gospel must first be preached to all nations".
What does this tell us? God has made salvation free through Jesus but, there is work to be done by anyone who receives this salvation. He is bound to proclaim the message to others. Given the fact that judgement awaits all evil doers and God has no delight in the death of a sinner, then as part of working out our salvation with fear and trembling, believers are to ensure they stand as watchmen wherever and whenever.
Therefore, be not thou ashamed of the testimony of our lord...but be partakers of the afflictions of the gospel (2Timothy1:8)
As for any who lives in past glory, the warning in verses 12-20 is for you. Hear Romans 2:13 " for not the hearers of the law are just before God but the doers shall be justified". Your present status with God matters a lot. The crown is for those who shall endure to the end, not for those that stop halfway. You don't know how close you're to your finish line, therefore shun every distraction and discouragement focus on the finish line to finish well and strong.
