THE WAGES OF SIN IS DEATH
TEXT: Genesis 3:8-24
In Genesis 2: 17, God says to Adam, specifically, "but you must not eat from the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it, you will surely die". God did not hide the consequences of eating of the fruit of the tree of knowledge from him. He told him plainly. He was given this instruction as a single man. Eve came to join him later.
In other words, as the custodian of the world, he is also responsible for what happens if the command is broken. When Eve decided to have a heart to heart conversation with the serpent, Adam wasn't there. She fell for Satan's trick. She plucked the fruit and ate keeping some for her husband. Observe verse 6 - 7 "she took some and ate it, she also gave some to her husband and the eyes of both of them were opened". Eve's eye didn't open until Adam ate the fruit.
God is interested in the head. It is the action of the leader of a family unit, church, school or community that usually determine God's Judgement. This is because, God commits his plans to leaders. Adam forgot the position of authority given to him by God and fell for the trick of the enemy, afterwards, shame will not allow him own up to his misdeeds. Even today, shame still cause us to hide and trade blames. It is best to stay within the boundaries marked for us, for our own good. As believers we must not allow internal or external pressures to push us out of these loving boundaries of God. As a loving father he gives these commands and instructions for our own good.
Finally, the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is life everlasting ( Romans 6 : 23) The Paradise lost in Adam has since been regained in Jesus. All who seek to restore the pre-Genesis 3 experience in their lives can come to Jesus today. In John 3:16 it says, "for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believes in him will not perish but have everlasting life". All you need is to believe in the finished work of salvation and redemption which Jesus accomplished on the cross of calvary and you will be free of all consequences of the ain of Adam.
PRAYER: Dear Father, it is not our wish, as your children, to disobey you but sometimes our carelessness make us to fall. Help us from today to determine to stay within the boundaries you have mapped out for us, no matter the pressure, that we may not find ourselves naked and ashamed… we ask this in Jesus name, Amen!
