DO THIS IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME

TEXT: LUKE 22:14 - 23

Scripture: vs19 - 20

And he took the bread and gave thanks and brake it and gave onto  them, saying: this is my body which is given for you; this do in remembrance of me. Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, this is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you

Jesus instructs that we must not forget this last passover he had with his apostles. Therefore, He instructs them and us to do it in remembrance of him. This means it is not just important to him that we engage in the ceremony or the ritual of reenacting the last supper but very crucial that we remember him as we do so.

Why is it so important to him? In fact verse 15 says "With desire, I have desired to  eat this passover  with you before I suffer. This means that Jesus was excited to do this; he was eagerly looking forward to this occasion. This is the main reason he came. To offer himself a ransom for many. For in this ceremony, Jesus replaced the passover lamb with himself. The shadows took on realities. Today, bread becomes Jesus' body and the wine becomes his blood. His body was broken and his blood shed to make us whole. And now, his body has become our spiritual food and his blood our spiritual drink. When we eat his body and drink his blood worthily, abiding in him he promised that we shall not see death. But anyone who refuses to eat of his flesh and drink his blood has no life in him (John 6: 53-56)

Becoming one with Jesus culminates in being baptised into oneness with him. Eating his body and drinking his blood sets us free from the bondage of sin and death. His blood washes our sin and his body nourishes our soul. However, many have participated in this ceremony carelessly to their own detriment.  The first step to eating worthily,  is to believe in your heart that Jesus died for your sins.  Acknowledge and accept him as your saviour and master. Then confess all known sins and repent of them. When you have done this you're then welcome to be part of this communion.

Father, the mystery of the bread of life is one you will continue to unravel to us till your kingdom comes. Those who ate manna directly from heaven still perished because of unbelief. Grant that as we partake in this mystery, that we may not be found unworthy. But be nourished as we ought. Looking forward to that day when we eat it again with Jesus in his kingdom. Amen
