TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND CHANGE
Text: Genesis 4:1-16
The theme of today's reading enjoins us to take responsibility for our actions and change, instead of trading blames or being incorrigible. Another generation of Adam and Eve appears. Unfortunately, The effects of the fall of man is glaring. Man's depravity has gone deeper. Cain is overcome by anger and jealousy over his own brother. Before this event, he had decided within himself to defraud God, either by the objects of his offering or by the state of his heart. It's obvious that God must have given instructions concerning the offering. If not he wouldn't have admonished Cain in verse 7a "If thou doest well shall thou not he accepted?" But more interesting is the warning in 7b "and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door, and unto thee shall be his desire and thou shalt rule over him"
God, having seen Cain's countenance over the situation warns him, that his anger and jealousy will put him into more trouble, for anger gives a mighty foothold to Satan, Sin is seeking to control and rule over him with its many overpowering desires. However, Cain must do all in his power to rule over sin. God is a loving father. He gives us many "expo" over the devices of Satan, yet, offences, we fail to be careful to follow his leading. Since the fall of man, sin has always sought to overpower us and make us its slaves. But God wants us to rule over sin instead. We find this warning again in Romans 6:16, "It says know you not that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are...whether of sin unto death or of obedience unto righteousness?
We are servants of righteousness because we have been cleansed and washed by the blood that speaks better things that the blood of Abel. (Hebrews 12: 24) Abel's blood cried out for vengeance against Cain but Jesus blood cries out even louder against Satan and all his accusations against the redeemed. Therefore, if the blood of Christ has sanctified you, live not like Cain rather, take responsibility for your actions and misdeeds and repent of every known and unknown sin. Seek for pardon and reconciliation with God as soon as you realise that you've fallen from grace and God's glory. He is the only one to cover your shame and nakedness. When you fall from Grace is the most important time to draw closer to the blood that washes all unrighteousness
PRAYER: Immortal father, you know the end from the beginning. You warned Cain to rule over sin and not allow sin rule him but he failed. Today, we pray, grant us the wisdom to ask for self control that we may not yield to the flesh when we are tempted but rather yield to your leading which guarantees life in Jesus name, Amen! Happy new month brothers and sisters. Remain blessed.
