DEMONCRACY

Bible Text: Luke 23: 13 -25

Scripture: vs 21- 24

But they cried, saying, crucify him, crucify him. And he said unto them the third time, what evil had he done? I have found no cause of death in him...and they were instant with loud voices, requiring that he might be crucified. And the voices of them and of the chief priests prevailed. And Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they required.

The above text shows us how Jesus comes to be condemned as a criminal. The ruling governor found him not guilty of any offence. He had every power and authority to release Jesus yet he refused to protect his right to life. Instead, he gave in to the shouts of the people to kill an innocent man. This is obviously one of the ills of democracy. When the power of the people is not properly checkmated, democracy can easily become demon-cracy. The demon manipulated frenzied shouts of the ignorant crowd is what led to Jesus  brutal murder. While the government turned a blind eye.

In other parts of the scripture Pilate was said to have washed his hands and declared that he is free of Jesus' blood. How possible is it, though? Can he ever be free? No! Likewise, when we remain silent in the face of injustice especially, when we have the constituted authority to stop it,  we are part of the perpetrators. Although Jesus has been determined to die for the sins of the world but all who join hand to hand in evil to conspire against him must face God's judgement.

LESSON: avoid being part of jungle justice. As much as it lies with you help someone to obtain justice. Do not join the multitude to do evil. Do not pass judgement when you don't have all the facts especially on social media. Do not remain silent in the face of injustice wherever and whenever situation arises.

Prayer: Father, Jesus has gone the way you appointed unto him. After all his mighty works and miracles, he died like a common criminal. Help us to know that following you doesn't guarantee a rosy life here on earth. Teach us not to question but follow you in any path you've mapped for us no matter how rough. Amen!
