HE BORE OUR DISGRACE
Good Friday
Text: Luke 23:26-43
SCRIPTURE: Verse 46 and when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit; and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.
It is Good Friday, the day we commemorate the death of our lord Jesus. He died for the sins of the whole world on a day like this 2022 years ago. His death changed the course of history. The calendar of the world comes to be divided into 'Before Christ' (BC) and After Death of Christ (AD). It didn't stop there. It also changed the spiritual history of the world. All Gentile nations outside the Commonwealth of Israel were granted access to God. Today, the whole world is reconciled to God because of what happened on Good Friday.
It is the death of Christ, but we do not mourn. We rejoice. Jesus paid the full penalty of sin. Where the first Adam failed, the second Adam prevailed. He overcome all forms of temptations thrown at him and stood fast till the end, bearing all of our shame and disgrace. He died physically, that our spiritual death may be rolled away. All who put their trust in him and accept his finished work of salvation on the cross receive forgiveness of their sin and the power to become children of God. Please do not mourn for Jesus today. Instead, Mourn and weep for yourself; for your children and for the entire world. See verses 28-29. "Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me but for yourselves and your children "
Lord Jesus, one thing is certain; you came of your own accord and laid down your life willingly for me and for the entire world. Grant that as we celebrate the sacred mysteries of your death today, you may impact our hearts to understand the magnitude of the love which compelled you to do so and hereafter arrange our lives as a worthy sacrifice to you who died that we may live. Amen!
