REMEMBER TO THANK GOD
TEXT: PSALM 21
Scripture: Verse 2,
You have given him his heart's desire and have not withheld the request of his lips.
King David sang this song of praise and exultation in thanks giving and joy. From a place of supplication in psalm 20 he moves to this place of intense praise, joy and gratitude to God. The night times of stagnation and worry will surely arise but joy sure comes in the morning. God has given him victory over the threats of his enemies. He did not forget where that victory came from like we sometimes do, rather, he burst out in pure, unfettered praise to the one who made it possible.
In every verse of this psalm we can also see Jesus, the king still in David's loins speaking out in joy affirming what God will achieve through him. Salvation for mankind from God's wrath is what He promised in Jesus. And here, he has accomplished it. Jesus asked for life for mankind and God gave him abundant, everlasting life for all who will trust in his finished work; length of days forevermore.
When we praise God, we do not remind God of who he is because he doesn't forget, but we sometimes forget. Hence praising God in the public or in the privacy of our closets is something we should do with eagerness. For this helps us keep in remembrance what he has done before and what he can do again.
Father, thank you for always giving ear to our supplications. Whenever we call you answer. Help us to be generous also in expressing our Thanksgiving and praise to you reminding ourselves of who you truly are. Amen.
