IGNORANT OF SCRIPTURES

Text: Mark 12:18-27

Ignorance of the scriptures have been the bane of many christians. In the very beginning, Eve was deceived because she trusted Satan more than God. Likewise Adam her husband. But as it is said that ignorance is not an excuse at law, they received the full weight of the punishment due for their disobedience. 

The book of Timothy cautions "study to show yourself approved, a workman who needs not be ashamed but rightly dividing the word of truth". Then Jesus promised, "you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free; for whomsoever the son makes free is free indeed. Jesus is the only way the truth and the life, no one can come to the father except through him. 

There are many churches and many sections/denominations in Christendom today with gross doctrinal and biblical diversion which fundamentally make them unfit to be called christian churches. Some of these sects deny the doctrine of trinity while some outrightly deny the divinity of Jesus as God and lord and even question the completeness of his atoning sacrifice. Others on the other hand, downplay the  person of the holy spirit and his power. Every believer in Christ must watch out for these liars particularly. 

Any church that directly or indirectly questions or deny, the above mentioned biblical foundations is a no go area for a child of God. It's unfortunate that most of these people in Jehovah witnesses, Christ church of the later day saints (Grail message), white garment churches and their likes will often claim that they are more knowledgeable. However,  always remember what Jesus said to them; you search the scriptures because you think that in them you have life?". These people have in their confusion embraced broken cisterns that hold no water and neglected the giver of life himself. They spend money doing endless research on and about the bible but neglect the power of the holy spirit who is able to explain the words of the scriptures to them. 

 Jesus did not mince words to educate the ignorant sadducees. He showed then the error of their thinking. Whatever they have conceived in their minds as to what resurrection is or would be is a far cry from the reality of it all. Likewise, God's ways are not our ways and his thoughts higher than ours but he has revealed his mind to us through Jesus. Therefore he says in Mark 9:7; " this is my beloved son, listen to Him". God has given us everything we need for life and godliness in Christ Jesus. Anyone who has Christ has life and any who do not have Christ, have not life.

Prayer: Father, may we listen to Jesus today in the quiteness of our hearts, may we find time to spend at his feet like the disciples of old and may we be willing to come away for a while with him on the mountain that he may teach us more about His soon coming kingdom and the relevant lifestyles in Jesus name. Amen.
